The right’s right to opinion

Why is the left so intolerant and afraid to allow other opinions? Can’t their beliefs stand up to scrutiny?
Leftists try to silence opposition through intimidation, thus throwing paint on fur coats, holding disruptive protests at a bank president’s home, publicizing names — and addresses — of donors to encourage harassing actions, deceitful character assassination and physically threatening petition circulators.

If you don’t agree with a petition, don’t sign. No need for confrontation.

The left believes that others are not #Woke. They are enlightened; we knuckle-draggers refuse to embrace socialism and equality. The starvation and misery of Venezuela and other socialist states don’t persuade them. Their trite belief: The right people weren’t in charge.

Throughout history, the right people have never been in charge.

We need to publicly support conservative candidates and issues. Please don’t let leftist intimidation silence you.

On the governor’s remarks

Re: “Farmers, ranchers have beef with Polis,” Sept. 2 news story

In the article, the vice president of the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association said, “to have a governor make any sort of reference that we shouldn’t embrace and support that is problematic.” The governor can’t make “any sort of reference” on an issue?

Isn’t that an attack against free speech? Sounds more like Donald Trump’s declaration that anyone of Jewish heritage who doesn’t support him is a disloyal American.

A work-from-home strategy

There is no shortage of traffic problems in the Denver area, but there is one potential solution we rarely hear anyone talk about. That is, Denver should begin encouraging businesses to let their employees work remotely. In fact, there should be a statewide campaign to get more businesses on board with this idea.

The average commute time in Denver is 46 minutes, according to human resources consulting firm Robert Half. And a growing number of people are commuting more than 90 minutes to work, according to a study by Apartment List. All that commuting not only affects the individual commuters, sucking up their time and money, it also carries a high social cost in the form of increased traffic congestion, wear and tear on the roads, and pollution.

If more companies allow their employees to work remotely, this will help alleviate many of those issues. Businesses could benefit from this move through reduced need for office space and the ability to attract a greater pool of talent, and people who do not want to or cannot work remotely would benefit from the reduced traffic.

Any time you can get a 45-minute commute down to zero, that is a net win for the entire community, and that is the direction we need to go in.

Don’t blame Sanders

Re: “Bernie or bust, again,” Sept. 1 letter to the editor

The letter writer accuses Bernie Sanders of leading his supporters to sit out the 2016 general election, supposedly causing Hillary Clinton’s defeat. This is false.

Sanders actually worked hard through the general campaign to elect Clinton. He made clear in interviews and rallies that he believed Donald Trump would be a disaster for America, while his differences with Clinton were smaller. Many of his campaign staff joined Clinton’s campaign to help her win the popular vote. For the 2020 campaign, Sanders — months ago — signed the pledge to support the Democratic nominee.

Many voters stayed home or voted for another candidate. Clinton lost these voters because she was unpopular for many reasons, ranging from her personality to a two decade-long, right-wing, anti-Hillary disinformation campaign.

If you prefer another candidate’s policies, support him or her. But don’t disparage Bernie Sanders for things he never did or said.

Lavaun Abbott, Denver
