Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats are teaming up with Colorado student activists next weekend for two days of events concluding in a concert to support gun-violence prevention.
“The nonpartisan events will emphasize voter registration and engagement, encouraging Colorado citizens to find peaceful solutions to the issue of gun violence,” according to a post on Facebook by Rateliff’s private foundation, The Marigold Project, which touts itself as supporting community and nonprofit organizations working on economic and social justice issues.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Industry Denver in RiNo, the event called Not One More will feature panels and workshops about gun-violence prevention. The panels will feature student activists, mental health specialists, faith leaders and local politicians speaking about peaceful protest, how to hold elected officials accountable and dispelling myths about violence.
Local and national leaders from Students Demand Action, Moms Demand Action and other advocacy groups will be present.
Workshop registration can be found at do303.com
When local student activists last planned an event in August protesting the NRA, last-minute concerns erupted after the students received an onslaught of violent threats.
The day after the Not One More event, Denver-based band Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats are scheduled to hold a rally and concert — at 2 p.m. Oct. 14 — at Levitt Pavilion, along with performers Fantastic Negrito, Los Mocochetes and the Denver Children’s Choir.
Pre-sale tickets are available now and general admission tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through Ticketmaster.
Rateliff posted about the event on Instagram, saying, “We believe that we can find common ground on this issue and keep our children safe. When we see the youth of the world wanting to make change happen, us as their elders need to respond in the correct way and listen.”
