Four people arrested in Denver at a demonstration and counter-demonstration on Shariah law were identified Monday.
The arrests came Saturday as the two groups, each with about 150 people, clashed in Veteran’s Park, between the state Capitol and Civic Center.
Denver police and state troopers put up yellow tape to keep the sides away from each other. About 5 p.m. confrontations between the groups became volatile after a long, hot day of protest and verbal exchange.
Police arrested Benjamin Lohrenz-Tregembo, 26, suspicion of 3rd degree assault; Malcom Giron-McClendon, 24, disturbance and threats; Jack Eley, 22, interference; and Daniel Lovato, felony warrant.
The Denver rally was one of more than two dozen held in U.S. cities Saturday, organized by ACT for America, which claims Islamic law — namely Shariah — is incompatible with Western democracy.
